Events

In addition to the education of the undergraduate students in the Optics Laboratory course, the Laboratory’s educational activities extend to the following areas:

1) Training events

They involve on site demonstrations of experiments for the students of public and private Elementary and High Schools, on issues related to Optics and its applications. Our laboratory also owns training material, experimental instruments and devices such as: spectroscopes, spectrophotometers, light detectors, spectral lamps, Lasers, diffraction gratings, polarizers, lenses, prisms etc. With the use of these, it is possible to demonstrate a large number of light-related phenomena.

In this way, it is possible to inform and develop students’ interest in issues related to Optics.

2) Participation in the events: “AUTh on Sundays”

“AUTh on Sundays” is an annual event of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki that has been taking place in recent years. For three consecutive Sundays of May, Laboratories of various Schools and Departments “open their doors” to the public of Thessaloniki and not only. Visitors are informed about the educational and research processes that take place in the laboratories. Also, various spectacular experiments are performed for the young students.

The Optics and Spectroscopy Laboratory participates continuously and successfully in this process, attracting a large number of visitors of all ages. It displays original devices each year in combination with the existing ones in the laboratory infrastructure.
